14-19 Plan
Mentoring
Mentoring provision was highlighted in the 14-19 Post Inspection Action Plan as an area for attention and further development. The mentoring conference which was held at the Durham County Cricket Club, Chester-le-street in June 2007 began the process of collecting information about existing provision. It was attended by representatives from schools, colleges, work based learning, Connexions, Aim Higher, Access and Inclusion Service and many individual services, all of whom provide mentoring for young people. An evaluation of the completed information questionnaire suggested the following:
- Audit of existing provision across the county especially with regard to transition 14-19, in order to identify areas for future development
- Circulate information about Continuous Professional Development, relevant courses and accredition appropriate for mentors
- Produce a resource pack for Transition Mentoring at 16
This feedback is being used in the development stage of creating an action plan to raise the provision of the mentoring workforce.
